  • Lee Chi's Wedding

i came back to ohio last wed to help stella out with her wedding...i'd have to say, she's the most laid back brid i've ever encountered!  usually a bride would be stressing out to the day of the wedding...but whenever i asked if she was stressed or nervous, her answer would always be "no!"  i'm amaized at how calm she was to the day of her wedding!  she's also the best bride to work for since she didn't care how we did anything from arranging flowers to doing our hair.

on the day of the wedding, stella looked absolutely stunning!  her hair and makeup were amazing!  it was fun helping her get dressed and be one of the first people to see her w/the gown own...it took a little bit of work to try to get the dress on w/ the puffy under skirt...but suzanna & i mannaged to get it on after a few struggles.  the wedding was beautiful one...the vows were touching...tried very hard to hold back tears...but i shed a few tears after seeing chi's mom cry.  i was very glad when the ceremony was over b/c my feet were killing me...note to self...not to wear really high heals next time i'm a bride's maid!

i saw a lot of familiar faces at the wedding...brought back good memories from college...i miss columbus and the people there...maybe i'll move back there when i have kids one day!  but for now nyc is my choice of lifestyle!  well...here are some pics i've taken...couldn't get the whole bridal party since i wasn't taking pics...so i'll have to steal pics from someone else's site later...for now, enjoy these pics!

  • BBQ

so i went to a friend's b-day bbq yesterday...thank God it didn't rain...it was suppose to! it was my first time going to a bbq in here where i didn't have to buy or prepare anything at all...i usually do most of the work out of my group of friends...not that i mind, but it's kind of nice being able to just chill and relax, enjoy the food and chat with friends for once. this was b/c the bbq i went to, i only knew the b-day boy and the people i came in a car with...so i was like a guest there amongst the b-day boy's friends. there were so much food and drinks...it must have taken them a long time to prepare!
the b-day boy told me that this chief prepared all the food downstarirs, so my friends and i went down to meet the great cook...when i first saw him...i was thinking...he looks so familiar...but i didn't know where i've seen him at. then someone mentioned his name...and i was thinking, he can't be one of my co-workers at the japanese restaurant i used to work at in ohio...he'd recognize me if it was really him, and he'd probably say hi. then we went upstairs, and i was telling my friends my thoughts...then when the chief came up, he came over and chatted with us...then one of my friends asked the chief "did you used to work in ohio?" and the chief was like "wheret?" then i said "soho!" then he immediately said pointed at me and said "karen!" wow...what a small world...i can't believe i'd see someone i used to work with in ohio, at a friends place 2yrs later. i asked him if he moved to ny, and he was like "i'm from ny!" go figure...i should've known...a lot of people are from ny who worked at soho. i asked the chief why he didn't say hi to me, and he was like "i wasn't sure if it was you or not." how funny huh? i'd have to say, his food was pretty awesome! and the drinks was really good as well.
after eating, we played some group games...i don't know where the host of the game got the ideas from...but the games i've played were games i've never played before...all really fun. i'd have to say, this was the best bbq i've been to this summer! enjoy the pics!

  • Memorial Day BBQ

this is our first holiday where everyone in our company didn't have to work...since we got back from our suspension, the government told us that we weren't allowed to work on our off days...meaning, we can't work on holidays anymore. this is good news for us, bad for the company. so a bunch of us went to carona park in flushing...it's a nice day today...a bit breezy, but still nice with the sun! there were around 40-50 of us who went. there were plenty of food, and only $12 per person...we were way under budget this time! we've estimated it for $20 each at first!
during our bbq, we've encountered a little situation...one of my friend (maggie) lost her cell phone. and she asked her sister to call her cell...then this guy picked up and demanded money from her. maggie told that the guy asked her how much she was gonna give her for her phone. i was like "are you serious? call the cop!" maggie tried calling the guy again. and he answered after the second time...then she handed me the phone since she didn't know what to say to the guy. after taking over the phone, i asked the guy "where are you at?" he was like "here!" then i was like "where?" then again, he said "here!" i looked around the area, then maggie was like "he's over there!" i looked over, and he's in the picnic table right next to ours. i walked over towards the guy and made a guy friend come over with me just in case the guy gives me a hard time. then, a few of our other friends decided to tag along. that guy must have gotten a little intimidated by us b/c he handed me the phone right after i asked "where's my phone!" i'm glad he didn't demand us to give him money for it...otherwise there might have been a fight...not me of course, but one of my guy friends might have been mad and start an argument or something...getting maggie's cell phone back was simpler than i thought, hehe.
despite our little situation, we still had a lot of fun...i've noticed that a friend of mine got badly brunt by the sun, and i was telling him that he should've put on sun block...then after coming home, i've realized that my chest kinda hurts...i too have been badly burnt by the sun! i have a really uneven tan now...i didn't wear a tank top since it's only in the 70s...now i have to go out and buy a tube top and go running or something to get rid of my retarded tan line! well...here's some pics from the bbq...enjoy!

  • Volunteering for China Earthquake

i went to volunteer for the china earthquake today in chinatown. we're asking people for donation...i love to volunteer...especially with friends and co-workers. it's always a lot of fun...and i feel good about myself afterwards.
so many people donated money. there were lots of 100 dollar bills inside the big water jar we used for the donation. many people also wrote checks...and when we said "thanks" to people who've donated money, many of their response were "don't thank me, i should be donating" or "it's my obligation!" hearing that from people is really humbling. but seriously, they don't have to donate...it's out of their free will and ability. people don't realize that it doesn't matter if they donate a dollar or 10,000 dollars, it's the thought that counts...just because you've donated more doesn't make you a better person! There was an older man who wrote a check for $200,000 yesterday...no joke! we're all like "wow!" then, there was another guy who was like "i was gonna donate a million dollars, but i lost a lot of money gambling...so i can only donate a dollar!" and he wrote a check for a dollar and asked for a receipt for tax deduction...this was the funniest story i've heard yesterday!
i got on the japanese news station (NHK) tonight! they're there the whole time i was there, and the broadcaster came and asked if we can speak english...we were speaking in chinese before. i told her yeah, and asked if she can do a live interview with me at 7pm...it was 5pm at the time. i told her "sure!" and she told me that she's gonna do a few rehearsals with me around 6pm. i was thinking...rehearsals for live tv?! i've always thought that it's without any rehearsal for live news...but i guess i was wrong. another person from the news crew asked me to say what i'm gonna say on tv to her, and she was like..."you can say this, but don't say that...etc." i didn't realize that they had to filter out stuff they don't want to air...not like i was saying anything bad...and she was like "you should keep it short since the whole interview should be less than 2min!" now i know what all goes in a short 2min news interview...lots of practice! good thing i took acting classes before...j/k! i only did skits! there were a lot of people watching on the side though...as if we're making a movie. good thing i wasn't camera shy when the live interview started. i think i've overcome my fear of being in front of the camera!
all of my co-workers were like "now you're famous! um...sure...in japan, where nobody knows who i am! it's my second time on tv...it's a neat experience, i'd have to say!

  • New update

haven't updated in a while...probably cuz not that many people use xanga anymore...but that's ok...anyway...i went to NJ to help hannah make bubble tea for her church (last week) for a fund raising event. hannah's going to china with 3 other people from her church...we intended on making bubble tea for 175 people, but ended up serving around 50?! hannah and i arrived early to her church, and we under estimated the cooking time...so in the end, we were in a rush to serve...i didn't want to serve the tea with the bubbles half cooked, hannah didn't want the people to wait any longer, so in the end, we compromised...and i cut the cooking time just a little bit...but it turned out decent, surprisingly! everyone said it was good...hope you're telling the truth! thought the whole process was a hectic, i still had fun since i had quit a few helpers...in the end, even the people who were waiting for the tea came inside the kitchen to help...it was a big success! i've met so many great people...i'd definitely go back and visit the church again!

i went to a workshop with my roommate this morning! it's a workshop on how to make cards...i didn't really want to go at first since i was thinking...i can make my own cards...it's not that hard. but i've decided to go since i had nothing else to do. the workshop was better than i thought it would be...everyone made some impressive cards! we're gonna make 6 cards, but ended up making 3 only since we're beginners and took longer to make each card. they suggested us to write a card to send to the prisoners, and in the end, i liked all of my cards, i didn't want to give any away...but i did anyway since i'm so nice! i wish they'd show us what the other 3 cards look like...they showed us samples of each card before showing us how to make them...and we can incorporate our creativity with each different card! so every card is one of a kind with similer colors and shapes! can't wait for the next workshop next month!
